I never knew Judy
Only the trail she left behind
A son and husband always lost
Them and a daughter, a gentle kind
I can see Judy in their like
When I hug her daughter so sure, full of grace
I never knew Judy
But her picture’s in the space
I keep tripping over gaps she left
In all the imprints she made in people’s lives
I’ve built up a fragile sense of her
A card tower from the affection in their eyes
I’m always someone of the era
Of those we met since Judy died
I’ll always wish I’d known the woman
I’ve met in what she left behind.
